I think it needed to be the 1st single.
1. It's not a dance track. It would have halted all the negativity that Britney wasn't dancing like 2001ney. A hot video where Britney got to be the not that innocent, **** tease.
2. It's slower. The radio needs a slow song. Inside Out is 100% Britney -- but would have been 100% unexpected since everyone was assuming it would be some Dr. Luke/K$ reject dance track.
3. It's progressive, risky and safe all at once.....it dips into dubstep like Luke wanted while still being radio friendly....yet risky since it's not a dance track.
4. Nods to history --- "hit me one more time, it's so amazing", "you're the only one whose ever drove me crazy".....a great nod to Britney's previous work...something that they have been doing a lot of this era.
5. It very well could have gotten some urban support which would have given the song a cool lift.
Regardless of WHATEVER song they chose, it was going to debut #1. We were dying for new Britney -- and her initial iTunes sales would have propelled it.
However, Britney really needed to promote.
