So here it is. The video to end all the videos. The first GaGa video since Alejandro (and you all know my opinions on that…um…video.) This “review” will be divided into two general parts: The first will be a first reactions paragraph, and the second part will be my personal thoughts / interpretation. NOTE: The response is in real time with my watching of the video.
FREAKING UNICORN! I knew that they would have an integral part in the video, even though SOME of your doubted me.
Moving on. I love the voice-over itself. She sounds very interesting. I like the sci-fi / 80s horror films vibes that I am getting. Okay, she just pulled something out of her *****. Of course. That looks kinda gross. I like the heads on the table mixed with her own though. And I love the color contrast of the “good” versus the evil. Okay, so now she’s pulling a gun out of her vagina. Still cool with the voiceover. This is insightful and contemplative. Damn she looks scary right now! With the wind machine and her face. Okay, now we have all the people on the ground with her. Very cool visual. Love what she’s wearing….Damn I am DIGGING the lighting / camera choice right now. YESSS DANCING!!! (Dang you can’t even recognize her in some of these parts.) I love when she’s sitting on the throne though! Loving this dancing, so much. Its so good an on point! (Now we can all memorize it since its in a video
) So now we have the person from the Schiebe music video. He’s kinda just chilling there. Weird. She looks very, very scary. I am getting Halloween vibes from this. Oh, cute group hug. Oh god, more stuff coming out of her vagina. Like the lighting when she’s with the other fake heads though. I wish they would have used that set more in the video. I’m getting kinda tired of the dark black background. And I like how they don’t have a set uniform, it makes it seem normal! Haha well as normal as you can get in this video. Okay I am getting tired of this skeleton guy doing NOTHING. That’s my least favorite part of the video so far. So now they’re having an orgy in lava. Damnnnnn when she’s crying she looks GOD AWFUL. OMG FREAKING UNICORN AGAIN!!! TOLD YOU SO.
Ok’rrrr, so now we have the interpretation. Now, I know the whole birth of a new race thing is integral to the song and the video, and I think that if anything, this video accomplished the conveyance of this message. Both literally, and metaphorically. We have the too-many scenes where the birth is actually happening, and it gets old and is quite frankly quite disgusting. I LOVED the symbolism and images of the red race versus the GaGa race and that juxtaposition served to emphasize the ideas of the video as a whole. The highlights of this video for me personally are when it was just her and her backup dancers. It was simple, on-point, and poignant. My least favorite part of the video is that DAMN SKELETON GUY. He’s doing nothing significant at all besides giving you that weird-ass stare the whole time, and she looks ****ing scary during that part. This video should have been released during Halloween IMO, but obviously that would only happen in my fantasy land. I thought that the most visually stunning scenes were when she was in the shiny mirror room with the other plastic heads from the organ at the Grammys as well as when she was sitting on the throne. She looked quite nice. But there were too damn many times where she made herself look as repulsive and ugly as hell. That’s just that. No one here can say she looked nice or artistic when she was doing some of that…questionable stuff.
Overall, it is definitely not her best. I would give it a 7 out of 10 on a scale where Bad Romance is 10, Telephone is 9, and Alejandro is a 3.
