I think the reason was Only Girl being SO HUGE.
OG has always been (and still is) above in the charts in Australia. And OG was to big when WMN? came.
Then when WMN? started to climb and move to the Top10 Who's That Chick? came. And unlike the US, WTC? has been a pretty big hit in Australia (u can see its 2xPlatinum already and still top20.)
So I think the reason for WMN? peaking at #18 is bad timing there.
Anyway it managed Platinum and its been 4 months in the Top50. Not bad at all if u ask me. 100.000 copies in australia is not a bad result at all.
Also, WMN? is more of an urban single. And Australia is more into party-mode rihanna. (Hard peaked in the 40s too...)
Apart from the US, having a urban hit single is quite random. Some songs click in some countries, some just dont.
Look at S&M. i thought it would smash HARD in the UK and so far its gonna peak @ #3 (not that its a bad result.... But seeing that even What's My Name? (which I thought it would never be a hit in the UK) went Platinum and manage #1, there its not that good result.)
I still think S&M will go Gold at least. But (hopefully Im wrong....) I think S&M wont go higher than #3
. If BBC hadn't thrown a hissy fit, there would be a drastically different outcome. But taking that into consideration, the single is performing phenomenally, and it is obvious that the song is selling the album based on its performance.
