I still can't believe Billboard listened to the Britney/Gaga stans complaining about cheating, or that they think that anyone outside of Britney/Gaga stans even voted in those polls

Despite the numbers, we're sure Lady Gaga isn't sweating it. Last week, "Born This Way" became the 1000th No. 1 song in the history of the Hot 100 chart. And just last night (Feb. 21), she ruled New York's Madison Square Garden, filming a special for HBO that had Paul McCartney, Billie Joe Armstrong, and other celebs putting their paws up.

I'm sure she'll settle for world domination instead.

It's the moment you've all been waiting for... After millions of votes, cries of foul play, and a controversial but necessary do-over, we finally have a winner to our Britney Vs. Gaga song poll, and this time it wasn't even close.
Britney Spears fans spoke loud and clear and named "Hold It Against Me" the overwhelming favorite with a whopping 68.7% of the vote. Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" took 26.7% of the votes. And 4.6% of Billboard.com visitors said they liked both songs and wished we could all just get along.

At the same time, Britney Spears is whetting fans' anticipation of her new album, "Femme Fatale" (due March 29); "Hold It Against Me" is also a Hot 100 chart-topper, and over the weekend she leaked two new songs, "Inside Out" and "I Wanna Go."

With so much more in store in 2011, we're sure the Britney vs. Gaga saga is far from over, but one thing is clear: these two leading ladies will keep pop music interesting for a long time to come.

Britney is hurt but she manages to get back up on her feet anyway. She quickly runs to safety in a large crowd with lots of witnesses in case anything goes wrong. She sees flashes of a person in a long black coat coming towards her. The killer doesn't know that Britney has a plan though, as soon as the killer approaches her she stabs him/her in the arm barely missing the chest.

*looks at iTunes, Billboard & UWC*
Britney totally went the safe route with her 1st single and Gaga still smoked her. We'll see what happens when Gaga goes the safe, RedOne, non-gay route with her second single.

I love how things don't matter after some work so hard to win it.

HIAM is the better song but GaGa knows how to sell anything.

The quality of the song, bb. And sales/peaks don't count, not until the end.
(Not TRYING for flamebait, but this gives me more belief that there is definitely something shady going on with those first week sales/spins if she can't even win a poll. Just saying.)

Gaga won Round 1 when her single opened with better numbers.
But Britney is fresh on her trail.

New records Gaga has broken since the last update:
Quote:
Lady Gaga has broken Australian sales records with her new single 'Born This Way' according to an ARIA press release this afternoon. The track, the first from her forthcoming album of the same name, has become the first track of 2011 to debut in the No.1 position, clocking up sales so mighty that we have to look back more than six years to find a challenger.
She's smashed the Australian one week digital sales record. And according to ARIA's release, 'Born This Way' has recorded the highest number of sales for a No.1 single since Anthony Callea's 'The Prayer' back in 2004 and is the highest selling single by a non-Australian since Elton John's 'Something About The Way You Look Tonight/Candle In The Wind' following the death of Princess Diana back in 1997. Presumably they're talking highest first-week sales.

After storming Billboard's Pop Songs chart last week with the highest plays total for a debuting song in the list's 18-year history, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" this week becomes one of just eight tracks to reach the top 10 in a mere two weeks.
The first single and title track from Lady Gaga's third studio album charges 14-6 with Greatest Gainer honors (6,813 plays, up 47%) on the Nielsen BDS-based radio airplay survey.
"Born" made additional historic headlines last week as the 1,000th Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 upon its debut at the summit.
The song joins Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" as the only titles since 2004 to reach the Pop Songs top bracket in just two chart weeks.
Songs to Reach the Pop Songs Top 10 in Two Chart Weeks:
Artist, Title, Chart Move Into Top 10, Chart Date, Peak Pos.
Lady Gaga, "Born This Way," 14-6, March 5, 2011, tbd
Britney Spears, "Hold It Against Me," 16-10, Feb. 5, 2011, No. 3 to-date
Eminem, "Just Lose It," 33-10, Oct. 16, 2004, No. 5
'N Sync, "Pop," 21-10, June 9, 2001, No. 5
Madonna, "Frozen," 16-10, March 14, 1998, No. 4
The Rembrandts, "I'll Be There for You," 22-10, June 3, 1995, No. 1 (eight weeks)
Mariah Carey, "Dreamlover," 12-4, Aug. 21, 1993, No. 1 (eight weeks)
Janet Jackson, "That's the Way Love Goes," 29-9, May 8, 1993, No. 1 (nine weeks)
Rising 14-6, "Born" registers the highest second-week Pop Songs rank since Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover" rocketed 12-4 in its second frame. "Born" likewise trails only "Dreamlover" for highest debut in the chart's archives.
Notably, "Born" bowed after just three days of airplay. With its second-week advance, the song has totaled 11,415 plays in its first 10 days of availability.
"Dreamlover," however, fell shy of reaching Pop Songs after its first week at radio. While the song logged 368 plays in its first week (ending Aug. 7, 1993), it did not debut until the following week, when it increased by 429% to 1,945 plays.
(The Pop Songs panel comprised 69 reporters at the time "Dreamlover" charted. As of this week, 129 stations contribute to the survey, allowing for significantly higher present-day weekly airplay sums).
All charts will be refreshed Thursday (Feb. 24) on Billboard.com.
