In the Middle East I'd say 1 out of 5 people can name 2 Lady GaGa songs, while EVERYBODY knows Toxic, Slave, Baby, Gimme More..

They thought it would flop because unlike Britney Spears, Lady Gaga took a chance with this song. She wrote those risky lyrics herself and didn't run to Dr. Luke out of desperation.
It does copy Madonna though, but better to copy Madonna's song from 1989 than Ke$ha's song from...a few months ago. As Britney's own stan put it, "Did Ke$ha pave the way for Britney's new sound?"
