we love 'Hold It Against Me' in some ways and we love 'Born This Way' in various other ways, but we prefer 'Born This Way'.

I'm actually really glad/surprised to hear it's not an all-out, bordering-on-oppressive club banger. Not that I can't appreciate that or want more of that from her, but this sounds like a new direction for her.
Right, it's kind of pointless to try to make a "message" song and then drown out the message in booming dance music.

In the long run it might be good. People were already saying BR sounds too much like PF. If her 3rd 1st single was yet again PF/BR (on acid), it might be a bit much, no?
