TBH if some of the criticism was actually legit I think people would take it more seriously. Saying "Oh it sounds just like Kesha, it sounds like Katy Perry" does nothing b/c IMO it doesn't sound like them at all. Britney worked with these guys long before those girls ever did, and was experimenting in electronica and heavy-synth wayyyyyyyyyyy before those girls ever picked up a mic (or became well known). This is Britney and her team further exploring dance music and infusing some other genres into it.
As a Britney fan I admit it's not revolutionary, but as I said earlier, it's the quintessential Britney song that is playing not only to her fan base, but also to those who maybe wouldn't have given her a chance before. HIAM is MUCH better than Womanizer, better than most of what was on Circus. Instead of giving us Blackout 2.0 (which might make some happy), Britney is continuing to look forward, not repeating herself or trying to be someone that she's not.
At midnight EST, "Hold it Against Me" from Britney Spears' 7th untitled album will be released on US iTunes. The single will be released in less than 4 hours.

Gimme More
Background/Charts
"Gimme More" is a song by American recording artist Britney Spears from her fifth studio album, Blackout. It was released on September 27, 2007 by Jive Records as the lead single of the album. The song was co-written and produced by Danja and was recorded during Spears's second pregnancy. The track opens with an intro in which Spears says the phrase "It's Britney, bitch". It features racy lyrics, that although they appear to be about dance and sex, are a reference to the public's fascination with Spears's private life. Musically, "Gimme More" is an uptempo dance-pop song with breathy vocals and influences from other genres, such as electro and funk. "Gimme More" received positive reviews from critics, who praised the music.Dennis Lim of Blender named the song one of the highlights of the album, calling it "hypnotic pole-dance pop". Alexis Petridis of The Guardian called the song "futuristic and thrilling". Nick Levine of Digital Spy said that "somehow, out of personal chaos, pop greatness has emerged. [Danja] melds tack-sharp beats and a deliciously scuzzy bassline to create a dancefloor throb that feels devilishly sexy" The song peaked at number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming her fifth top ten hit and also her second highest-peaking single at the time. It also peaked at the top of the charts in Canada and reached top five positions in fourteen countries. The accompanying music video displayed Spears as a stripper and featured a break from Spears's highly choreographed music videos. It received mixed to negative reviews from critics."Gimme More" has been covered and sampled by many artists from different genres, including a metal cover by Machinae Supremacy and acoustic versions by Sia, Marié Digby and Christopher Dallman. Spears performed "Gimme More" at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, wearing a black sequined ensemble. Her performance received massive media coverage and feedback as well, who commented extensively on her singing, dancing and wardrobe. Chris Crocker uploaded a video in response to the criticism titled "Leave Britney Alone!", which made him an Internet celebrity and was referenced in television spoofs and films. The song's opening line, "It's Britney, bitch", became a catch phrase in popular culture. It was referenced in many television shows and used during the performance of "Human Nature" on Madonna's 2008-09 Sticky & Sweet Tour.
