Relax. Not every artist gets the chance to star in $200m budget movie. Its the #11 most expensive movie ever.
Just because the budget is good doesn't mean it's gonna be well-received. I'm not a fan of these singers becoming actors or vice versa.

Because she could have potentially had monster sales this month in the US while she's settling for mediocre sales while she films a movie. Plus there's no guarantee that she's actually gonna do promo in Jan. I'm just hoping Battleship does well or else it'll just be a big waste of time. But ya never know so we'll see when the movie comes out.
Promotion and airplay are equally important. It also depends on what type of artist you are and what demographic you cater to. Susan Boyle has never had a radio hit and barely promotes. Taylor Swift hasn't been promoting lately. Hell, most people that are in the the projections for the Top 10 next week are not promoting much. Where have you seen R. Kelly, Jackie Evancho, Kid Rock, or the Glee Cast?
Meanwhile, Katy's been on pretty much every show there is and is only pushing 60-70k this week. And her overall sales are absolutely atrocious IMO. Three #1 singles, promoting EVERYWHERE, and she's still not Platinum yet? Her label is clearly pushing for her to be the "it" girl this year with all this money poured into her, but they can't be making much back.
But getting back on topic, I never thought I would see Rihanna selling 70,000 albums in her fifth week out. Yes, I know sales are inflated because of the holidays, but still. These are great sales, and I'm really surprised that people don't think it's enough. She's selling solely on two radio smashes at the moment. And for a Pop artist like her, that's most important. She could promote until she's blue in the face. It wouldn't do anything if she doesn't have a radio hit. At the same time, you can't completely abandon promotion, which is what she's done for about a month now. And that makes her sales even more impressive IMO.
I always wanted Rihanna to be in a movie like X men or something where she could kick massive ass...but any I still prefer her doing music any day. It pisses me off that she's selling decently as opposed to amazingly in the states
