I can see why you feel that way about religion then. In the US, things have modernized so much (your situation sounds like the US 50 years ago, if not more). Sinners are not looked down upon, but are helped in prayer by many. In Church, there really is no hate being preached. Sermons are often about loving and serving others around us.
You all expressed really valid points and opinions. It's nice to have a fanbase like this.
