Surely you'd give it your all and make give the fans something they wouldn't forget... But she gave them a terrible album cover, then "Hymne à l'amour" and finally a cheap video for "Goodbye Happiness" :-/

Yeh... the video was a farewell. It was obvious. Parts of the video indicated that Hikki was saying goodbye to her music. I do think the video is pretty sad...

I don't know anything about things in here but...in my humble opinion I think Newt is best qualified for determining what is and what isn't a 'treat' to Utada's fans and I think references to previous PVs are a valid one.

I don't really see the need to downplay that and claim that she doesn't care.

It all depends how different people view the video. Of course many of her fans are going to think that the video is meant for them... it stands to sense. Because they aren't looking that deep into it.

But if you see it from the eyes of someone else, you'll see a completely differnet idea of the video.

I feel like Utada is doing it more for herself... as the whole video is based in her bedroom (well maybe not hers) which is where she feels the most comfortable and happiest in her life. The doves later on in the video represent that she is free, so she can finally take on a different career on life... or maybe just a long break. Other representations in the video are all centered around her... not for her fans...

If it was for her fans, you think she would have maybe included them in her video? Or she'd make a high budget video as a big send off?

Frost I think if an artist makes a video in their bedroom, the most personal place one might have, it's like inviting the viewer in it - and that is certainly a treat for fans, in my opinion.

What you said is completely valid. You can interpret this in many ways. The bolded part is just opinion though. That is the way YOU would have handled this. However, this may not be the way Utada thinks. Maybe she thinks this kind of video does count as an ode to her fans. We can never know what she was thinking.

It may not be a direct thank you to her fans but it is indirectly. Its a trip down memory lane that some of us (unfortunately not me) have traveled alongside with her. The "I Love You" sign is the most obvious gesture towards her fans.

This topic isn't going to go anywhere until Utada explains to us herself what the meaning of the video is. I would so much rather her not do this though, leaving it up for interpretation is nice

Yeh well that is your view. But being in her bedroom could mean a load of different things could it?

It could show that Utada misses her choldhood? Or show that is where she feels the most comfortable?

No one will be able to know the real reason behind the video, because nothing is explained. Things are shown in the video, which can be portrayed in a number of ways... but when the doves flew out of the pizza box it shows that Utada is free and ready for a fresh start.

But even if Utada explained herself. You really honestly believe that it will be 100% genuine... So many artists can hide behind false words. The only way to make fans believe they they appreciate their support is to actually show it.

Utada fans, in general consensus, have agreed that this means something completely different. If you know Utada well like her fans and stans do, you would know she is OBSESSED with Pizza Hut

The word for dove in japanese is Hato and the doves came from a pizza box.

how does that disqualify it from being a treat? If she lets her fans see her most personal place that is connected to her childhood and she feels the most comfortable in it then...that doesn't discredit my point, right?
