Anyone who without can , just sayin'.
This site costs you nothing and is run by less than a handful of people in their free time. Nobody owes you anything.
So what if the server gets a lot of traffic and has to cool down for a few minutes? It's not a big deal.

It's annoying. I was busy writing a long ass post when suddenly the site froze down.

Copy and paste it before submitting, then. That's something you should be doing with all web forms.
I'm not interested AT ALL in anyone complaining about the site as if you're somehow entitled to 100% uptime. You're not. That goes for everybody on the previous page. If you can do it better, make your own site.
ATRL is not a business. We don't promise anything. This isn't like some multimillion dollar venture capital funded startup.
P.S. Joe, the webmaster, is a great guy who already spent more on this site than anybody else here ever would.

Nope, mine isn't.
I mean come on, I really respect the work that y'all are doing, I really do, but can't you replace yourself in our shoes? What if you were a member on a board where the site freezes down 5/6 times a day?

You didn't read what TC previously posted? The mods, admin etc have done enough for this site to be running smoothly, efficiently and to be able to handle a relatively large amount of activity at one given time. It's not their problem if you lose a post if the site were to shutdown temporarily.

Welcome to the Internet. I've been around all kinds of sites, from the smallest to the largest on the entire web, and you know what I see everywhere? Servers going down from time to time. Copy and paste, friend.
You just need to understand and comprehend that it's really not an easy or cheap thing for one guy (Joe) to pay for a site that has hundreds of people on it at any given time, loading page after page after page. Seriously.
This site came out of nothing, and a team of people worked really hard on it for nothing, and you can visit it and enjoy it for nothing. If that's not a good enough deal for you, you don't have to come here.

Ive invested over $10,000 in this site, and have only got a small amount of that back out of ad revenue. Like TC was saying either donate to help me cover the costs, or quit complaining. We all understand that it sucks but this isn't our job, we don't paid for this, in fact I loose money on this deal. We try our hardest to keep the site up, but at peaks times you have to expect that. I will give you one example that someone else has already mentioned The Twitter whale, you think they want downtime, do people bitch when twitter goes down yes. But they too are working as hard as they can.
Just think about all the hard work that has gone into this site for FREE. If we were a business that made millions of dollars a year then I would say you entitled to a working site, but we aren't. Everyone of us does this in our spare time. When people disrespect us, I wonder about them.
So just chill out and enjoy what we have given to you for free.

I know, thanks for everything. I really respect the job you're all doing. Is it possible to donate from a Dutch bankaccount too?

Of course. Just use a credit/debit card (yours preferably) and follow all the prompts given on this page - http://atrl.net/forums/donation.php
It's pretty easy.

I will make this an announcement tomorrow when I have more free time. But today I ordered a more powerful server it will double the processing power we currently have. So the server should be able to serve many more requests and at a much faster rate. The site will be need to be down for some time, I am going to try and keep this to the night time (after 10pm) but depending on how things go it could change. I will keep you guys updated.

I think you do a lot for this site, especially seeing as how you hardly ever post anymore.
Thank you.

New Server | It's here, please be patient during setup
Update #1
I have finished the server, and you may have noticed yesterday the forum was down for a little while. I was moving a backup of the database to the new server to test it out. Everything is working ok, and we are putting the final touches on it.
ATRL Server Move Schedule:
10:00 PM EST November 9, 2010 - ATRL Shuts down
11:00 PM EST November 9, 2010 - I begin moving the final database
1:00 AM EST November 10, 2010 - Backup restoration begins.
2:00 AM EST November 10, 2010 - Final Check to make sure everything is working
6:00-8:00 AM EST November 10, 2010 - ATRL is turned back on and is on the new server.
Thats it guys then we should have a new server up and running.
If there are any problems, I will post them on the main page of this server.
If you are unable to access via ATRL.net you will be able to access it via our IP
Hey guys
New Server
Ive got great news. A New server has just been ordered for ATRL. I am hoping that this will speed up the site and reduce the down time some of you experience. This server is almost double the power of current one, but will take some work to setup. It is in the process of being setup at this very moment. You will notice that ATRL may be down during this process, at this time I do not have definitive time table as to when everything will be taking place.
Service Interruptions
The site may be down for hours at a time, I am going to ask you to please be patient with me while this occurring, emailing any of the staff members including my self will not make this go any faster. I am the primary one who will be doing all the work and would prefer if no one was to contact about when the site will be back up if it is down for moving.
Your Data
Dont worry everything will be saved, up to a certain point. When I get ready for the move I will make it very clear that at a certain time anything posted after that will be lost. You will see this just as you see the notice for this on the top of the page.
Questions
If you have any questions about this process please feel free to post them here.
Donate
This new server costs more than the old one, so I am asking anyone that can please donate to ATRL if possible. It isnt cheap to run this site, and any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Please try and give back to the community that has given so much to you.
Thank You
