As usual they didn't cite their method for obtaining said data.
Google is known for not giving ALL the information on Search Results, numbers of searches per month/year, and other such information they like to withhold(while conveniently mining you for every piece of information they can get from you or you provide).
A recent change in their Adwords Keyword Tool was said to be more accurate by SEO Marketers who have noticed a change in the results of visitors by comparing their own traffic to what the Keyword Tool says is there. Google, of course, has said nothing.
So, with Google being shady, and no method told to us to how these numbers were obtained, it's about equal to guess work.
