So am I, but I'm not biased.
Their music and ability to perform onstage is certainly debatable.
Now vocally? Janet has no chance in hell.

The only really HUGE stars nowadays are Beyonce and Gaga. No, don't say Katy Perry is a huge star. Katy Perry is an untalented joke who lacks a fanbase.

Yeah you're saying what I said.
Britney could be included, but she's so half-dead now.

Times have changed. Beyonce is DOMINATING a ****** music industry. Janet was one of many amazing female superstars when she was at her peak. Beyonce has like 1 real competitor when it comes to that stuff--GaGa, a woman who is probably too wacko to perform for Presidents and such.
Janet had Whitney, Madonna, Mariah, Whitney, Shania, Alanis, Celine, etc. to compete with.
If she did it in purpose, she wouldn't have looked so shocked and then covered it up immediately afterward. Just saying. That wasn't acting. OBVIOUSLY Justin was supposed to rip something off, but not the whole thing.

Janet danced and whispered and that's just the truth. Beyonce however can do it all and in any language.

|
Right, Janet holds the record for the most Billboard awards of anybody ever.
I love seeing you fight for her.

Beyonce and Gaga remind me of true STARS that existed back in the day. The ones where fans would faint and chase after just to get an autograph. They possess the natural star power. Whereas if Katy Perry or Rihanna were to walk down the street, maybe a few people would stop and a few would say, oh hey, that is Katy Perry, that's kinda cool.

Whenever confronted about it, none of the people who say it think that there is anything wrong with it. Denied marriage? Denied the right to be open about who they are even if they are risking their life for their country? Black people still get hate yes, but NOW AND THEN. Not AS MUCH as gay people do. At least not as much as out in the open as gay people.
|
I'm constantly hearing stories of people being prejudice against black people. Just the other day I heard this women couldn't get this house she wanted because she was black.
And you can hide your homosexuality(I THINK YOU SHOULDN'T THOUGH BECAUSE EVERYBODY SHOULD BE THEMSELVES) I can't hide the fact I'm black. And the stereotyping of a black boy is always on my shoulders. Going somewhere without somebody getting afraid of my entrance. In 7 eleven the other day me and some other friends went in, I'm the only black person, guess who is the first one to get question about shoplifting.
So black people are still going through struggles and so are gays. But to say one struggle is bigger than the other is preposterous.

Bey gets praise every now and then mostly when it concerns her voice/performance skills or the Grammys, but on a daily basis you don't see Bey all over the media being praised like other celebs.

I just don't like how people discredit her, Whitney, Mariah and the like once they have become irrelevant. The same thing will probably happen to GaGa, Beyonce and Rihanna once they become passed their primes --- people star discrediting their successes.

Exactly, Lady Gaga comes out the ****ing blue and snatches 8 VMA's with her first album when Rihanna and Beyonce had to work their asses off to even be nominated for Video Of The Year. WHY??? Why does the media cover Rihanna every which way when she gets her ass beat but when shes doing well no one wants her? Why is Lady Gaga covering Rolling Stone twice in the USA when Rihanna hasn't even gotten one? The truth is the truth and it will be spilled on my time.
|
She didn't really come out of the blue.
It took almost a year until Interscope decided she was worth the proper promotion and money required to make her a star.
Not to mention that it took ages for her bouncing around as a songwriter until she was signed by Interscope. That irony of this black-white argument is that it's because of a black R&B singer/rapper that she's here.
Plus, black or white, love her or hate her, she was born a star. Some people are made stars, others just have it, you can see it within 10 seconds.

Nope... Janet wrote too. I know you don't understand that music doesn't come from thin air and that it takes talent to create it, but Janet has--or at least had--that talent.
I don't even know why I'm arguing with you about this. Nothing will ever change. So I'll continue to enjoy Janet and you can continue to think you understand what she is when you don't.

There's some other list like "250 Most Essential Albums of All-Time" or something that Janet has 2 on it too--janet. and Control--but I forgot which publication it was.
|
Dangerously In Love was named as one of the top 200 Definitive albums in music history by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

But look at the period differences. Albums were selling like hot cakes back then.

I think The Writings On The Wall are on some RS list and Dangerously In Love and The Writings On The Wall are both listed on the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame's List of 200 definitive albums that shaped music.
I need to find the receipts though...
