She doesn't decide when to release albums; it's her label choice. And we all know that her label is stupid.

No, Rihanna can decide when to release her albums. But she just chooses to release albums every 9 months - 1 year basically. Her label cannot force her to do anything, and if they drop her, they will be missing so much

Katy once said in an interview about Teenage Dream that her label called her one day and told her "It's time to become a Pop star again" aka to start recording a new album.

Once you sign the contract, you can't do nothing. You must do anything your label say, and if you refuse they'll probably sue you due to contract breach. Or the artist can sue the label; but why would they?

Rihanna is recording a new album because her label wants to, not because she want to. End of the case.

Nope. Gaga chose Alejandro as the third single from TFM when her record label wanted DITD. She fighted them to change the third scheduled single and they did.

And so what if singles =/= albums. We are comparing label choices to artist choices, and the common ground between the two is choices. Singles and Albums are choices to be made, so it doesn't matter what kind of choice, as long as it is one

Labels can't make an artist to do any and everything. The Katy example is normal, of course they can ask for their artist to begin writing / recording. That doesn't = being forced and the artist not wanting to do it. Rihanna could have chosen to take a break, but she obviously chose to record. Unless her contract details exact times she needs to release an album, she can decide when she wants to, as long as it's reasonable with the label. You make them sound like companies ran by Hitler, not the case. And only few times we've seen such issues and usually with unprofessional labels like RCA (Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera).

Some artist non have promotion like Rihanna (exemple: Arcade Fire, new album is good sale)
If Rihanna no promition like Arcade Fire then Rihanna will be unkown artist or popular like Arcade Fire, or mabye more?
