In terms of music style not success here's the western artists I would compare the J-Divas too:
Ayu: Madonna
Kumi: Britney
Namie: Janet Jackson/Jennifer Lopez
Utada: Mariah Carey (early Utada), Bjork (present day Utada)

Those were Japanese sales for This Is The One.
But Itsuky has a point
That's like me saying Hurricane Venus is flopping when it only sold 5K in Japan (made up number). It is clearly Korean and meant for the Korean Market

Not here for excuses. Hikki is a Japanese artist and released an album to Japan and it flopped. Nuff said.
