Where I come from. good is a relative term. So all of the hate comments are nothing but opinions. It's not like they're gonna take away the song from #1 so I disregard all of them.
The whole musical community should agree she was snubbed when YBWM peaked at #2. So karma is just being nice to her this time.

I hate the song, but if it's #1, then that means it's good enough to be #1.

And many people is buying it because of the hype and not because of the quality

There's no defined standard that characterises what a number 1 should consist of. It may not be the greatest song, it's certainly not one of my current favourites... but considering the impact that Taylor has made in the US I think she does deserve her first number 1. I would have preferred if it was with a better song like Love Story... Oh well.

Right, if anyone who doesn't have a Hot 100 #1 deserves one, it's Taylor Swift. It's ridiculous that she doesn't have even one, and I'm hardly a fan. Really shows how flawed the charts are.

Where i come from people has to accept other people opinions.
In my opinion that song isn't even GOOD. But i said it wasn't good ENOUGH because i knew there was going to be a taylor fan reading it.
It's not a hate comment, is an opinion.
And in MY opinion this song is overrated.

And i consider that a #1 song is important because it means is the most acclaimed or consumed by most of the people so it should be something really good or memorable. And of course, maybe more songs aren't neither, but this song (in my opinion) isn't a memorable pop song.

I think the US charts should be sales only, sales accurately reflect what is popular, airplay doesn't. Billboard will continue with their out-dated formula, but they should really consider revising it.

I think airplay does need to be in there to keep us from having random one-week-wonders. I do believe that VEVO plays NEED to be added in, though.

I disagree. First of all, a chart reflecting only sales would be way too sporadic with songs jumping all over the place and making drastic leaps and falls. Also, a sudden burts of sales does not mean a song is necessarily popular. Songs that are truly popular are popular for a sustained period of time, not just a week or two, and that's why airplay is key in determining a song's chart trajectory.

Vevo should be included. What is a greater collective means of entertainment for the entire world than YouTube?

I agree with you, If the US charts were only sales it would be a total MESS, can you imagine Justin Bieber as the artist with most top ten hits beating Madonna, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Janet Jackson, etc in a couple of years? I cannot...
Also don't forget the random jumps and falls, I would puke with a chart so flawed.
IMO the formula used for the US charts is good and reflects the true popularity of what's hot right now.

I don't think Vevo should be counted.
A) Not all artists have Vevos.
B) IMO Vevo is bias.

Radio always tends to favour specific people, and it puts others at a disadvantage. It often props up songs that are not popular at all, I don't think high airplay is justifiable unless it has sales to back it up. I don't doubt that songs that are popular should have longevity, I've never been a fan of these front-loaded number ones, but I don't think they should be denied the top spot when they are so clearly the most in demand song during a given week, simply because airplay factors as a detriment to them. Bad Romance was not number one because of the flaws in this method, in reality it was a far bigger hit than Rude Boy for example. That is not reflected in their chart peaks. I don't think chart peaks will be ever be truly accurate, peaking at number 1 can often come down to luck - take Poker Face for example.
Airplay is not factored in the majority of countries, charts are certainly more sporadic but they have structure to them. They tend to follow patterns, the chaos makes them more interesting to follow.

Funny, this topic was also brought up when Today Was A Fairy Tale was released
But since everyone is putting their 2 cents, then here are mine...
IMO airplay should be counted cause its actually reflecting what the public is asking to listen in the current time. It's like counting all of our lastfm's or something like that.
Only-sales charts are biased cause basically we have tons of stans buying recklessly anything certain artists would release and making it seem like they're some kind of legends when they're certainly not, like when Justin Bieber releases a promo single and it goes straight to top 10 when most of the regular people dont even know that song exists. As a counterpart, airplay charts reflect what the masses want to listen.
However like Celestial says airplay only benefits a few artists and makes it harder for us to appreciate different music peaking higher.
