Those are exceptions but certainly not the rules. Drake's and Nicki's songs are borderline pop. Notice how "Massive Attack" didn't even do anything on iTunes and Drake's songs barely stay in the top 10. I'm not making excuses for Ciara, but Urban (and I use this word lightly) isn't dominating the charts, particularly iTunes, right now. If this was 2000-2005, that would be a different story.

Ok, but the ONLY reason Britney has sold albums in the past 7 years is because of her FIRST week sales.
Rihanna may not have a number one album, or sell that much in her first week, but she has LONGEVITY and is a HUGE singles artist.
And Rihannas tour in Europe wasnt HUGELY successful because of the Chris Brown thing. It was cause it was Rihanna. People wouldnt say "Oh, she got beat up, lemme buy a $50 ticket." NO. Shes still successful.

No, let's begin it because it's true. RR wasn't exactly the single many hoped for, and her US-pop infested audiences didn't exactly appreciate it. Where did this song on Airplay? Almost nowhere! So, looking at the peak (only her digital saved her). As for 'Hard' and 'Rude Boy' the ignited the project and had they been first singles it would have been a different era. And as Rude Boy was saying the most commercial songs on the album aren't even being looked at when most of them are being IGNORED as SINGLES. Where is 'Te Amo' in the US? Or, 'Photographs'? And maybe even 'Stupid In Love' as you mentioned

Tbh urban songs really DON'T perform as well as pop songs do on iTunes but that has nothing to do with "Ride" since it really isn't isn't even that much of a strict R&B song like Monica or Keyshia Cole's singles. It has a lot of mainstream appeal and she's a popular artist (or at least I would think so) with a much buzzed about video, so she should be performing just as well as Nicki Minaj.

Maybe I'm overestimating Ciara's power and career though.

How is "Ride" doing at its core format?

Some of you act like Pop is the end all and be all of success. Ciara is not the in thing at pop or in the mainstream, so her best thing is to establish a fan base or get back her Urban fan base, and she'll be fine. Maxwell, Sade, Monica and others are doing that and are doing decently.

"Ride" is doing WAY better than Keyshia & Monica singles did on iTunes though.

& Nicki Minaj is Top 15 on Rhythmic & also has over 100 spins on Pop.

It's performing very well and might go Top 10 on Urban airplay next week.
