Your "estimates" are 400k too high darling Plus.. it's not like Britney is not selling ANYTHING while she's on hiatus. Gaga would need to sell at this same rate for another 4 years to catch up to Britney with Britney not releasing anything. Not gonna happen. Also, there's nothing Gaga can do or wear to reach Britney's level of cultural impact and fame.

I still can't believe you guys are arguing, it was a JOKE I mean come on...Gaga vs Britney... BRITNEY WOULD **** ALL OVER GAGA before Gaga could even have a chance. In about 5 more years if Gaga is still as successful, and Britney is still popular, then this comparison would arise! Anyways, the things you said about Gaga and about how she is a gimmick...THAT IS SOOOO 17 MONTHS AGO! Right after Just Dance, people kept saying Gaga is a gimmick, she won't have another no.1, she won't last long, blah blah blah! Look at her now, MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN BRITNEY WAS IN THE FIRST 17 MONTHS OF HER CAREER! So don't downplay La Gaga like everyone did before, because she will only **** ON YOUR AZZ WITH HIT AFTER HIT!

I didn't say GaGa was a gimmick. She pulls/plays gimmicky, when she could be so much better than that. (a la "So Happy I Could Die") GaGa more successful than Britney in her first 17 months? I had no idea The Fame has sold 25 million albums. I did not realize she has sold 37 million albums after releasing only two.
And why should it be in 5 years? The comparisons will NEVER make sense. You just confirmed it. GaGa needs TIME. Proving that it's ridiculous to say "GaGa vs. Britney" in a whole. If you're speaking in the now, GaGa is leading Pop right now, everyone. I would never deny that. But overall, you are talking nonsense. Don't downplay GaGa? Who the **** is she at the end of the day? The bitch who wears weird clothes. Don't downplay Britney Spears.

Oh I didn't know Spears sold 25 million copies of her first album on 17 months, because she DIDNT. And I obviously confirmed Gaga needs time because she is a NEW ARTIST! When Britney was new, she needed time to gain starpower to honey. How many records did Brit sell in 17 months...SURE HELL WASNT 40 million! None of her singles reached over 5 MILLION DOWNLOADS! None of her videos add up to 1 BILLION VIEWS! She DOES NOT HAVE the most watched music video on YouTube...most watched VIDEO on YouTube. She only has one grammy, while Gaga has 2! Gaga won 5 WMA's in one year, A RECORD! And Hun, no one is downplaying Brit, she is a legend. You're just made because Gaga PROVED to be more successful in her first 17 months than Brit in the SAME TIME PERIOD! Case closed hun

Gaga hasnt been on the go for 17months, are you forgetting how long it took her to build steam, just dance was out early 2008 i saw the video at freinds in about may 2008, and she was active way before that. Lady gaga is 23 britney is 28 she is only 5 years younger, Britney had sold 83m records by then, i think we can safley say britney had the better start to her career.
Britney in 17months had released Ooops and Bomt which have both sold over 20m copies, Bomt had sold 20m ww in 12months and oops probly about 15m and thats not counting single sales. So even if you take the age factor oyut britney was still more succesful.

Actually "Womanizer" and "Circus" both crossed 5 million downloads worldwide. The receipts are on the IFPI website. I see your point GagalooBabii, but all of these accomplishment are based on sales trends NOW. Youtube views are a NEW phenomenon. 30+ million views for two ancient songs is quite a feat. You don't see many other artists doing it for old ass songs. If Youtube was around in 1999 God only knows how many views her singles would've gotten. Britney had the album advantage back in the day. Gaga has the single advantage now. A lot of success, but in different areas.
And plus receipts have shown album sales have decreased on average 35% from 10 years. That would put The Fame at about 15 million, right?

Lmfao.. Crazy much? Gaga has been active since she was 20 it took her 3 years to bloody break into the industry, her first 17months she acheived nothing. It took britney around 5 years to sell 83m as these figures have not been updated since 2003/04

This is the point I was trying to make. I never said Brit wasn't successful, she clearly was and is an influence on Gaga. I was just saying Gaga isn't some flash in the pan...she is the real deal. She is going to be a competitor against Brit very soon once she is universally known. I think after this reply, I feel a lot better so I do have to rant on to people. Thanks

Not really. You're comparing two completely different eras. GaGa is highly successful in the digital era at her start, Britney was in the physical era at her start. Technically, they were equally successful in their respective eras.

You said she had a bigger debut than Britney. That's why people got mad. You made some good points, though. Gaga probably won't ever have an album sell over 20 million, and Britney probably won't ever have a single sell over 10 million. Britney obviously got the bulk of her sales early in her career, but that's also what Gaga is doing now. She WILL slow down. It's inevitable. Sorry.

Don't forget that BOMT was able to sell through when album sales were at their peak a few years later as Britney was still huge and releasing music then. How much did BOMT actually sell in 1999?
I'm not getting involved in this, I've just always been curious

Around 16-17 million. And she did it with only 4 worldwide singles. You know The Fame would've stopped well before 10 million if it wasn't re-released.

In its 47th week on the Billboard 200 the album held strong, peaking at number-three, just giving the album a total of 10 million copies and it was later certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America.[
|
it had sold 10m copies in america alone, within 47 weeks of it's release
Gaga has re-release the fame, she is promoting in the fame like 3rd year of release, and has re-issused i am not saying that that isnt amazing, but britney album was amazing succesful, its not like every album released in 2000 where succesful look at Mimi releases

Probably. Not too shabby seen as Jive's 1999 tactics of not releasing singles to gain album sales couldn't/weren't used
