You were saying?
I'm glad you seem to care so much. But Disturbia is not still selling. We can have the rest of this conversation in the appropriate thread if you care to continue.
You're right, she was perfectly half of each.
Name: Agnes Deeauen
[Agnes Derouen]
Race: Mulatto
Able to read: No
Able to Write: No
Her French name Derouen is characteristic of her whiteness, her inability to read or write is characteristic of her blackness — and before you pounce on me for being "racist" I'm talking in historical terms - American blacks in 1920 had poor literacy rates especially in Texas/Louisiana where Agnes lived. Skin colour characteristic of both.
But she looks much whiter than black in that particular photo. Her facial features are extremely European (French to be specific).
Thanks for the history lesson..
Of couse black people in that day in age had poor literacy rates.. Do you understand the history of the US? Hundreds of years of slavery would most certainly equate in their being a literacy gap between races.. It is common sense.. And to say that her "inability" to read or write is a "characteristic" of her blackness, is a highly offensive, baseless, inaccurate, and unfounded statement to make. Her inability to read and write is due in large part to the history of black people in the US.
That french name was most likely a slave master's name, I'm sure you don't need the history lesson on that one..
Sidenote: Ain't it funny that when very successful black people make such great acheivements, people question the true extent of their "blackness".. The very term "blackness" is by nature, an offensive term.
