I tried going vegetarian, I was successful for a bit but I really like chicken and slipped back into eating meat.

I know for me, I just lose so much ****ing weight without meat and animal fats in my diet. These plants are no match for my furnace metabolism.

So unless I want to look like a VS model, I have to eat carbs and animals products to maintain my physique. I know it's not necessary, but it's definitely a cheaper shortcut. Though I'm sure I can achieve the same results with just plants once I'm older and my metabolism slows down.

It's not convenient for everyone to give up meat.

I see your point, but I think this Azealia Banks story has to do with the fact no one knew this thing exists. I remember back in 2012 when I found a news article about female virgins getting circumcisions when they're a small child still, and I was shocked and disgusted. But people move on with their lives when they can't do much online, just give out support to those in countries, but people in higher positions can make a change or people living in those countries, but unfortunately all of them are scared to criticize because of backlash unless a major story like Banks' goes viral and causes a major media backlash. There are probably thousands of religious violent practices that we have no idea of!

This kind of incapsulates my issues with how some Atheists approach issues in our world.

The chicken different suffer more pain cause it was killed for a palo mayombe ritual to some Congolese spirit Azealia was offering it to than it would have in a factory farm for you to eat.

Similarly, prejudice in the name of religion isn't measurably worse or more evil or hateful than prejudice simply done through sociocultural norms. We have tons of irreligious countries who are still homophobic under the idea that "sciences says the point of humans is to reproduce" and that "men need to be men" (which includes being with women). If you theoretically got rid of religion, you'd still have tons of oppression happening.

Atheists With A Capital A just too often let their hatred of religion distract them from issues they take to heart, to where they see religion as a source of an issue and not simply a vehicle that spreads the issue. Sure, stop religion from spreading hate, but don't let your vision close in so much on that you focus only on prejudice spread by religion and not prejudice elsewhere. The ending of religion is a silly, superficial and short-sighted goal.

The chickens have nothing to do with my lack of faith, of course. I just personally think it's morally wrong to harm animals, but I'm not more offended cause Azealia killed one to use than people killing them to eat given, for all I know, she could have treated the chicken better than a factory farm would. To me, both acts are selfish, even if I can understand why people eat meat or can't afford to not go vegan. Similarly, irreligious prejudice is just as a concern to me as prejudice carried out and spread by religion.

The issue I take with this response is your trying to create a false sense of these two issues being one in the same. There is a stark difference in murdering an animal as an omnivore to use as nutrition in the order of life. Than using chicken sacrifices and leaving them all types of blood, feathers and who knows what else to lay on the floor to rot for a significant time period (they said 3 years). Which violates any health code, for what exactly??? Simply to further your life goals rather than work harder, change your behavior and step away from social media in order to achieve.

The consumption of meat being ethically selfish according to you has nothing to do with the nuanced statements I made. There is a difference between using meat as a source of nutrition, and letting it waste away on the floor for years. The same cultural relativity could say that, if Azealia also ate the chicken, she was far more ethical than most meat-eaters, since she used every part of the chicken, ie: its meat, its blood, etc. Sure, you may not agree for one of the usage of its parts (blood for her spiritual practices), but that doesn't negate she used it.

Again, the human body does not need meat.
It doesn't matter which is more selfish, since that implicates both acts are selfish.
One who does not eat meat could objectively feel both as selfish acts.

And no, your argument is not nuanced. You can get the very same nutrition elsewhere, so no, in the framework of selfishness, eating meat is an innately selfish act.
