LOT is not even pop, it is R&B music. It sounds like a Stevie melody. Beyst did have strong melodies and hooks back then even on rhythmic bops like CIL, Check on It, Upgrade U, Single Ladies, but now she's trying the trap/alt R&B more monotone styling so she isn't being vocally out there. LOT is pop in the sense that it's an easily palatable linear melody. Not that it's edm or something. I know it's RnB.
Her newer songs may not all be pop songs (i.e. Daddy Lessons), but I don't see how that makes their melodies worse. They're just different. I think it's interesting she's giving us the full range and to see how she's able to pull off sounds like Hold Up and Don't Hurt Yourself that have melodies but include rapping and speaking and exclamations. 6 Inch for example, sounds like a journey in song form. It and Sorry change melodies like 3 times.
