It's true.
I have nodules myself (obviously a detriment to me

) and they cause my voice to become airy and tired very easily, which is the same for normal people, but because she grew them so early in her life (not birth like she claims - that's impossible) she learned to literally sing 'through them'.
A) Due to how vocal chords work, which is rubbing up against each other allowing air to pass through, the less chord closure, the higher the phonation.
B) If you have any protrusion whatsoever on them, it'll cause less chord closure (because instead of the chords closing, only the nodule or whatever is obstructing it will close).
A+B=Whistle for Mariah. That's why she can talk in whistle so easily when her voice is tired.
But because of all the years of using her 'airy' (sometimes mistakenly called her falsetto) voice, it most likely caused them to rub up against each other way too much and have inflamed them even more (possibly also caused new ones to grow).
