Also, I really think that the only way Rih does Carpool Karaoke is if it's a special Grammy edition. James please make it happen the world needs it

CK special Grammy edition would probably include someone else as well. Keep it. Her alone or nothing tbh.
Updated year end lists if anyone cares:
Part 1.
Part 2.

Even though Westbury Road is part of Roc Nation, I really hope she finds a way to divest and leave Roc Nation once and for all. She needs to be on an actual big label like Interscope. Roc Nation gains a lot more from her than she does from them. Hopefully the shambolic release of Anti makes her rethink things.

Nah. If that's the case at this point in her career she doesn't need any big label.... Keep Westbury Road and find a new distributor perhaps?
Honestly RocNation itself isn't really the problem but I'd argue it's more so her personal team. J. Cole is also on Roc but his Dreamville team is the brains behind his projects. They keep his albums organized, quiet, strategically release buzz tracks. He like Rihanna just have Roc distribute the album to retailers
& for what it's worth Rih connection to RocNation is mainly because of Jay Brown. I'd argue they're closer than she & Jay Z. She's close with his kids and he's always there for family functions in Barbados

They do have this her mentality and that's why don't fuxs with them

WHEN and WHY did critics start hating Rihanna? I am trying to remember what was the turning point or what happened. . .Navy, help me out with this one.

They don't really hate her. Her first 2 albums were "fluff" so they didn't take her seriously. Good Girl Gone Bad was a solid pop album with edge and it got great reviews (compare its reception to Teenage Dream, for example, which is also a straight up pop album.) Rated R came and while many were disappointed they didn't get GGGB part 2, they were mostly impressed with her growth and maturity.
Loud and Talk That Talk were creative steps back, and, after Rated R, they expected better.
Unapologetic was overshadowed by the Chris Brown mess and her handling of it but even at that, it still didn't get horrible reviews.
Anti was already painted in a bad light by the messy nature of the campaign over the past year and the shoddy release, but it still pulled through.
Basically, they may have certain expectations of her, and many of them are committed to certain narratives, but largely, they are reasonable with her.

Another issue is that she doesn't always utilize her momentum properly. After Rated R, people were primed to take her seriously as an artist. Loud was a regression in that department and could have really solidified her as an artistic behemoth.
After Loud, she proved her commercial power once again and eyes were on her. If she'd delivered something with more artistic merits than TTT, things would have been different too.
She's in a great position now, and as long as she serves quality + a well thought-out and organized campaign, she should see a surge in critical reception.

Hating? Is a stretch. C'mon
She's received praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, Pitchfork at least once thought her career but I will say Rihanna has been overlooked and hasn't always gotten her due credit previously in terms of her impact.
Guess that's in part with her being a popstar, most critics are elitist in a sense and don't think pop stars are substance artist or innovative and that's why indie acts tend to get more acclaim since they're not really getting a big label backing so their creativity is seen as more authentic since hypothetically speaking less people are involved in their projects.
Plus Rihanna has never pushed the whole " I made this video" or "I wrote this song " angle that other pop girls try to do. Notice in her thank you speeches it's always a "We" even though people have gone on record to say she came up with ___ concept. Shes never been afraid to give full credit to people who help her.

Agree w what FireLexus said. It's really up to her what type of recognition she wants from her on out. If she were to regress with R9 it'd be her fault cause the foundation for more growth has definitely been laid.
I know a lot of the Navy is worried about her performance in certain markets overseas but I would HATE for her to pander a certain demographic for the sake of sales after Anti.

At least we've gotten to the point where they can admit being wrong about her but yeah, the overall understanding is still missing

I hate the ******** women agenda and black agenda thats being pushed in the media. I'm glad rhenna is not pandering to it.
This era was the best tho. I really didn't think she'd top Una but she did. All my other semi faves (Azealia and Gaga) have completely let me down but Rih just keeps exceeding my expectations

I actually think it would do her a great deal of good to talk about the creative process more. There's a reason other people do it so much. It affects perception a lot. I can't even remember the last time she talked in-depth about music in an interview. It's always about her as a person, with a random mention here or there about music.

I have hope that the documentary explores the creative process and work that she puts in. I can't see her ever forcing the topic herself. Like, magazine profiles + behind-the-scenes footage are our best hope in terms of showing that side of her.
Regarding critics, Rih has always gotten the standard popstar treatment. She always let's the media choose their own narrative rather than force something onto them so many keep a lazy, simplistic outlook on what she does and what she's achieved. The countless hurdles she's overcome professionally and personally don't take center stage because she's not one to remind us constantly, and because it would force the media to examine the terrible way she's been treated and represented.
I've said it before but Rih acting as she chooses regardless of media opinion is the reason she is loved and respected today. She made it through 3-4 years of disdain, condescension, and hate so while I'm annoyed by some of her decisions in the moment, I look back and am so thankful for the path she's taken. I think her relationship to critics and humble approach will reap the same benefit. At a certain point, her accomplishments speak for themselves, along with the fact that her peers and upcoming stars can't replicate them. She will get her due credit eventually.

Hopefully her documentary airs in the Spring and hopefully it is executed well so she can snatch an Emmy nod or something.

I still have mixed feelings about the whole situation. I loved what they did together on the album, but on the other hand, I hate the fact that Chirs was part of one of her best albums.

This and that is why I get so salty when Rih is not given the credit she deserves because the progression she has made and the hard work you know is nothing less than amazing!!!!! She deserves to be acknowledged and honored.

I'm not really a big fan of CB's part on the song, so overall i wasn't here for his involvement on the album at all.

The tea was served on these last pages. I agree with nearly everything that was said. The mentioned characteristics of her are one of the many reasons why I stan for this woman. She ALWAYS talks in plural and I think she does it nowadays (when shes refers to FENTY corp or her Puma team) even more often.
