For sure, I completely understand, I wasn't saying that. Just some of these songs are so overly poetic, and borrow so heavily from poetic structure (
so they read better lyrically), that I wonder how they could even be sung.
I just worry there's not a shot for songwriters who aren't overly descriptive and rely on heavy, heavy imagery. All songs should have themes, and metaphors, and imagery, obviously, but I feel to an extent, they should also follow song structure. That doesn't mean they have to be pop, but I think if this is a songwriting contest, the lyrics should read as something that could realistically be sung. If people had to submit vocals with their lyrics, I'm sure the submissions would be different.
I'm looking at past seasons and entries from this season, and a lot of songs utilize poetic structure, feature really heavy imagery, and have a lot of big, abstract words that would be really hard to sing. I know since this is strictly a contest for songwriting, the lyrics should be able to stand on their own, but some of the best and most lyrically respected songs this generation wouldn't be able to win over like, a Robert Frost poem. lol.
I know this sounds like complaining, but I'm not trying to lol. I love reading the entries and being challenged, this is simply an observation.
