Trina Dem Girls breaks up the melancholy so I think it worked. TNISY has a nostalgic sadness to it that fits with the albums message and promises a brighter tomorrow. I look at it as the All Night of the album.
I've always felt the trinity of Pills-BoL-GP was a less honest shadow of ATG-I Lied-TCG. While the latter trio displayed genuine, raw emotion, the former trio feel like an impersonal attempt to feign emotion. The Crying Game is a song that gives me a visceral reaction to cry, whereas Bed of Lies or Grand Piano feel as if they are telling me I should be crying.
