I think Cheap Thrills had similar start, it was struggling for weeks with small as updates despite doing good on iTunes (for the airplay it had) just like MR. And then suddenly they couldn't ignore it anymore (or maybe callouts came idk) so they had to start spinning it. And now Sia regained her radio power and The Greatest is doing good on radio.
So if MR manages to survive it should be easier for the next single

Same thing happened to Like I'm Gonna Lose You. Sent to radio in May, spent 93 days hanging between #31-#50 on Pop radio, got picked up in October and peaked at #5 in January.

At least with the way these radio updates are going, it looks like it's going to last past the freeze and past January. Might be a longevity hit if MR stabilizes on iTunes
It didn't start getting big updates until a full month and a half after its release.
Like I'm Gonna Lose You was even worse omg, hanging in there with pitiful updates for an entire goddamn summer
The great thing with MR is it would still sound iconic on the radio in February/March, so it has all winter to catch on. Hopefully we're all just stupid whining bottoms and Bobby/Gaga know what they're doing
