Evita was a movie, + there was controversy Madonna couldn't play the part.
I'll give you Ray of Light and Music though I think she was highly criticized for her cover of American Pie so in some sense it had a shock factor
Face it, Madonna's career has some form of controversy in all eras whether we think so or not.
Als, this is only Gaga's fifth album + Gaga didn't really do well in making herself well known she was still there during 2015 (in the eyes of the GP at least), while Madonna was by then. It was a lot of stans asking where she was and that were upset - the GP didn't care. They all viewed her as a fad (not that they didn't Madonna either to be fair...)
Before you drag me though, I'm a huge Gaga fan pre-Joanne (though I have NOTHING but the utmost respect for her doing this of course).
I'd totally be here for another pop/electronic album by Gaga because I just can't get into Joanne (besides MR).
