FLAC basically means that It's the CD/Vinyl copy of an album.
MP3's and M4A's are obviously digital copies, which means they are compressed to the smallest file possible.
Let me explain It like this:
A MP3 looks like this for your player that is reading the file:
1 3 5 7 9
The player is reading the digits while It's program is filling the gaps by itself which is the reason the file is so small.
But when you have a CD/Vinyl there's no artificial intelligence to fill the gaps by It's own. So obviously there has to be EVERY piece of production pressed on It, otherwise It wouldn't sound like the song that leaves the studio.
So a FLAC looks like this to the player that is reading or
scanning the file:
123456789
which makes the file much bigger but also the sound quality much higher.
But only with a good sound system. You won't hear much difference on regular devices.
Hope that helps.
