I think he still could've won without it. There's a huge amount of people in certain states like California, NY, NJ, etc. who don't even vote because they know their vote won't count, or the chances of their votes counting would be slim to none. I voted, but I knew my vote wouldn't really count living in Jersey, and there's tons of people who didn't go out because of that.

People in here saying that getting rid of the EC means that small rural states would get ignored when EVERY. SINGLE. SMALL. RURAL. STATE. gets ignored under the current system as well minus New Hampshire. Do you seriously care THAT much about the feelings of the people in New Hampshire? The transperancy

I'm sure people from NH would be fine with the EC leaving since candidates already spend millions on it during the primaries because of its significance (AND it's a state that went to Clinton so clearly they'd like to see her win). So, no, "small rural states getting ignored" wouldn't change if the EC was dismantled.

People in here acting like every single vote in rural counties went to Trump.

A lot of people voted for Clinton outside of major cities, so it wouldn't be "against the people" if we did away with the EC. It gives more influence to states with smaller populations than the influence they should have. Each and every person who has the right to vote in this country is an American. Doesn't matter what state they live in. Why should some hillbilly in my podunk town have more of an impact than someone in California? They shouldn't, and that's the point. More people voted for Clinton. It shouldn't matter what state they came from or if that state is primarily blue or red when there are so many people there whose voices deserve to be heard. Nobody says anything about Texas and Florida having huge electoral votes and going red when a large number of those people are Clinton supporters whose opinions are being neglected.

I'd support the EC if it worked more as a parliamentary system rather than winner-take-all, but that's not the case.

Apparently to some users in here the GOP would be totally here for a popular vote system because they've only won it once in the past 7 elections and have been handed 4 presidencies due to the electoral college. The level of reasoning on this site

But dems own the urban areas that are much more populated and dominant, so it's not really comparable.

Trump winning almost every swing state kind of shows how the popular vote would be much closer if it worked that way. The people in those states knew their votes could make a difference and count, and it all worked in his favor.
