I love how it's always an issue in majority Non-Black countries when people ask them to stop dressing up as caricatures that look like black people, but it's a rarity to find in majority Black countries huge celebrations where millions of people dress up to look like caricatures as other races.

Caricatures are not always a bad thing though, especially when the message they convey is positive (in this case saving Christmas or Santa).

Read up on the history of Zwarte Piet...it has nothing to do with black people/slavery, but only with the devil / harlequins / scaramouches, he sometimes wore a mask with bells and used to be white, but later turned black after he threw the candy through the chimney, at least according to the folklore/history of the figure... The church used this figure to scare children (devil)... over time things changed and they made both Sinterklaas/Piet more child friendly, but Zwarte Piet still wears the original outfit already seen around 1700...

It's not even about the tradition, it's about the way people are going about it... look at Belgium, they solved this in a proper way, without any public discussion and without any threat to a 300 year old national holiday by a small group of insecure people that choose to be offended by something that has nothing to do with slavery or racism... especially when literally every immigrant with his/her own religion and culture can celebrate their holidays and even gets days off for these, even if it clashes with our customs and culture, like slaughtering animals without sedation
It's a good thing that police are coming for the protesters, cuz most of the people against this are not willing to let their own culture/religion/customs go to adapt to that of the country they moved to/live in, so why the hell should we change ours, especially without good reason?
