To be specific, it was done so that slave states had more power.
With the passage of the Three-Fifths Compromise, slave states were entitled to more representatives in Congress and thus more electoral votes. A vote in one of these states had more power than in a state without slaves.
Isn't it funny how the most recent Republican presidents were elected without the popular vote?
The Electoral College continues to do its job. To this day, rural voters have more voting power than urban ones.
