I registered independent because I understand that it's possible for both parties to have good ideas and bad ideas, and because I think that being blindly loyal to a political party makes people stop thinking critically.... But, lbr, the GOP is so awful on so many issues one doesn't need to think very critically to realize they're the wrong choice.

On the flip side, many people may be reassured in 2020 when the candidate isn't as repugnant as Donald.
It AMAZES me how stupid the GOP are, though. The fact that they basically used the 2012 Autopsy as toilet paper this year is ridiculous.
I really do believe that the Republican party is in a dire position. The country is moving to the left, and will continue moving to the left. The GOP can adapt and change, or fight back and lose. The party (or the primary voters, I guess) chose to fight back. The party is fighting losing battles over climate change, abortion, and gay rights that turn away countless voters. They need to shift left, even slowly, on these issues to appeal to independents and others, but instead they nominated a climate change denier who ran the most anti-gay platform in history. The party also needs to do more to appeal to people of color, especially in their base southern states with rising black and Hispanic numbers. Instead, they nominated a racist scumbag endorsed by the KKK who literally began his campaign by calling Mexicans rapists and criminals.
At this rate, the Republican party is likely never going to reach a point where it will be prepared for a country with more people of color than white people.
The idea of the GOP winning in 2020 suddenly terrifies me. 12 years of Democratic rule and continuous leftward movement will probably provoke an incredibly severe rightward movement. If Donald is anything to go by... And they'll probably be even more extreme-right after another 4 years of moving left. Hillary needs to have the best first term in history to nab that reelection.

If he joined the Supreme Court, wouldn't he have to sit out on any case related to his time as president?
But it would be GLORIOUS if he got there. The ultimate clapback.
