I think they should keep the electoral college but assign votes proportionally like in some of the Democratic primaries so you get a balance between a system that's totally based on the electoral college and one that's totally based on the popular vote.

Yeah. It doesn't make any sense to have an election where your vote only matters if you live in a certain state. And it's insane to know our president-elect in 2000 didn't even win the popular vote.

The purpose of the Electoral College is so one state with a higher population doesn't determine the outcome of an election for the entire country. If you have Hillary win 80-20 say in CA, it directly gives her a major advantage because of one state. If you make it so a 90-10 win is the same weight as a 51-49 win, you can keep the power of the states in check proportionally.
Same reason the Senate and House have different rules based on population/not population so voices in certain states don't get too much power.

They've also cancelled Trump's appearance in WI. Bit weird, all throughout this cycle WI has appeared better for him yet he's dropped that and going after MI instead. I guess the Marquette poll got them shook.

MI isn't really in play though, I don't get this strategy at all. Also, no mention of NH or PA?

If the NPVIC ever gets 270 electoral votes the election will essentially be done through popular vote without actually removing the electoral college.
