Not this myth that if he hasn't insulted everyone, he'd be in a better shape. If not for this rhetoric, he wouldn't even have won the primary. He'd basically be a much weaker Romney considering unlike Mitt he has no knowledge in politics.
If not for him insulting Muslims, hispanics, women, journalists, politicians etc. he wouldn't have gathered his base that loves his "He says what everyone is thinking" "He tells it like it is" "He tells the truth" approach (Which is comical because we've always accused that base of thinking what Trump has said and have been met with repeated denials).
Trump is where he is because of his rhetoric. He has nothing to show for it outside of that.
This is true too. It's part of why he's consistently rated as more honest. A lot of white people think being racist =being honest.
Everything balances out though. There is no secret vote for Trump, and if there is it would be equivalent to the secret vote for Clinton of those embarrassed to publicly support her in Republican leaning states. A lot of people are voting for Clinton because they dislike Trump, but a large group of voters are voting for Trump because of their dislike for Clinton. I can't imagine a scenario where one of these groups is really outnumbering the other one.
Speaking of honest and trustworthy....i have NEVER looked at a politician and thought 'man he/she is honest and trustworthy' that's like an oxymoron lol
