KPOP is getting more and more global, most notably with BTS shattering all the records for KPOP on Billboard.
Honestly, part of it (for me, at least) is how plain US music has become as of late, but ESPECIALLY this year. I've been in the KPOP scene for 5 years now, and I love how each band tries to re-invent their sound and comeback with a new concept each time they release music.
I don't feel like musicians/labels try to push the boundaries of music too much as of late because the US music market is in a revolutionary changing period, where streaming is just taking sales out of the picture completely, and most labels are trying to produce music that caters to the streaming market. (not that all the new music is bad, just there seems to be a distinct lack of creativity, especially this year)
While in KPOP, sales are getting better and better, and it's growing into a global powerhouse. The labels aren't afraid to experiment with sounds to try and create a distinct sound for their respective group, not just falling into the normal "dance-sound" or normal "ballad song".
