I honestly doubt she will give us anything "groundbreaking" that's just such a high expectation. What IS groundbreaking? Most of that stuff ventures severely left field out of the realm of pop and as we can see she's still not headed that direction, nor is she willing to be completely pure pop either. There's always a mix with her, which is nice.

Was there really that much backlash from BTW? I don't really recall. I remember Judas being blacklisted from some radio stations and people being pissed about TEOG video, and the whole Amazon 99 cent mess, but I thought generally the era was pretty well received.

Here there was. I used to write essays to people like Swag(madonna stan) and others. Btw was a handful of consecutive disasters. I still love the era and the music though.

I think the GOP just started to move on after Judas flopped.

Literally nothing about BTW was well-received. Starting from the Express Yourself comparisons. She like bled stans left and right (at least in America lol) and everyone who hated her from the beginning just doubled down on t because she was everywhere. It became very uncool to still like Lady Gaga by the time the MTN video dropped. That was the beginning of where we are today and why ARTPOP was so disportionately panned

Born This Way had many 80s children there with it. Bad Romance and Just Dance were part of their albums very well. So one does have to wonder WHY that song ended up being the lead single.

It seems that PI is the second-most upbeat track (after Diamond Heart) thus it eases the transition from her previous work. It at least grasped the attention of pop fans before releasing a more GP friendly ballad in Million Reasons. It's also the first of her career as Yoü And I is more rock ballad than pop.

Don't think any of Gaga's previous records even had a majority of < 90 BPM let alone 4 ballads on the standard. These promo singles and live performances are slowly introducing Joanne rather than single-promo-promo-promo-single, live performance, live concert, 18 interviews and all of the misjudgement of ARTPOP and its early promotion. It's just the music.

Saying this's not the same Gaga is kinda stupid TBH. In all her previous albums there were songs that had the same touch as Joanne does. So you can tell this's something that Gaga loved to do and probably wanted to do more but wasn't allowed to because her team wanted her in be in this box that is pop. I'm happy for her because she's clearly making music she loves and enjoys. And if the music wasn't great I wouldn't be here defending her but I'm actually enjoying this album. People and especially her fans need to stop comparing her old music with this and they will be able to enjoy the album just like me and the others here on ATRL.

I guess I see that era with rose-tinted glasses, because Gaga was literally everything to me 2009-2012
To the point where I listened to her, and only her, every day for almost a solid year.
