Yes I've seen the Soul Train Awards clip. It's also in the HIStory liner. My point was that it caught on by around 1991.

And it's a title that's never in contention. Just like The King of Pop, The Queen of Soul, The Godfather of Soul etc. The Queen of Pop is literally the only title in music that's always in contention.

Basically. Janet was called the Queen of Pop by a French magazine in 1990. Then again by The Independent in 1996, then once more by the LA Times in 2001.

Yea and my point is that it doesn't matter how or when it caught on. It stuck and The Queen of Pop title was created by the media as a result.
King of Pop came first. Not the Queen of Pop.

The difference, you see, is that Madonna has been called that so many times during so many decades that it is practically impossible to count.

Madonna is STILL the Queen of Pop.
Why are we still discussing this?

Exactly. Janet, Whitney, Mariah, Celine. They all have. Britney even. Rolling Stone did a whole piece a few years back on "who's the new Queen of Pop": http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...0110629?page=1
Whitney/her instrument has been called "The Voice" since 1986.
Quote:
Fresno Bee, The (CA)
September 18, 1986
Edition: HOME
Whitney Houston's appearance at Selland Arena Tuesday night begged the question: Is The Voice enough? Are an extraordinary set of vocal cords, some carefully chosen "nice" songs and a classy reading of them enough to rate as excellent? It's easy to see why the crowd, which nearly filled the arena, responded so enthusiastically to Houston's 115-minute show, and why just about everybody in the music industry has gone gaga over the 23-year-old singer. She sings with a power and control few possess, and her squeaky-clean image is a blessing in a business where inflated egos and eccentric behavior abound.
But despite The Voice, her Fresno show fell ever-so-slightly short of the kind of excellence you could rave about. Before you start rolling your eyes and shaking your head at what sounds like a petty criticism, ask yourself this question: What is Whitney Houston like?

Never in contention.
However, none of this changes the fact that Madonna simply isn't that popular in the African continent.

Anyway I think Whitney's estate and fans are more than pleased with "The Voice." You know a title that wasn't created just so the media could have a "female equivalent" to the already established King of Pop.
|
Your friend seems to have a lot to say about me.
And I was correct.
Madonna is the Queen of Pop.
Not Whitney.
Where's the error?

No, your point was proven wrong and now you're trying to change your original statement. Let this be a lesson for future reference that instead of trying to save face, just admit you were wrong.

Right, which is when it caught on. He wanted it.
Madonna's never cared about her QOP title, she rejected it back in 2012. "Don't confuse art with aristocracy." It was given to her naturally and not by her team.
|
And also really? Are these not the lyrics to one of her songs?

Can you post some articles from the 80s calling Madonna the QOP?

Well it's clear that the title of "Queen of Pop" is always debatable. So there's the answer to the question of this thread. And still, no, Madonna is not always going to be the QOP because she's only a "pop icon" here in the countries I've lived in.

Nope. Like I said he was not referred to as the KOP by and large 'til the Dangerous era.

Yes, really. It's an tongue-in-cheek lyric but when she was seriously asked about the moniker she told him not to confuse art with aristocracy. She's also worn a shirt saying "Queen of the Universe", do you think she thinks she's that?

She's not even a pop snapchat in the countries I've lived in, so her QOP title clearly has a limited reach.

Why do y'all keep falling for Mr Wonders, Chimiers, and IMPACTNETs obvious form of trolling.
But like Mr Wonder once told a lady gaga stan backin 2010: " Madonna is the standard and has built this pop template. Show the queen of pop some respect.
I couldn't agree any more.

Nothing in this statement mentions "caught on" or "by and large."
You are further embarrassing yourself. Just admit you were wrong.
