In all seriousness, though, I feel like everyone's got the mentality that "Adele has gotten it before, no need to give it to her again."

On this note...
I'm in this like Music Industry club at school because I like the tea (we get a bunch of people that come give talks about their experiences). Last night was this guy who used to do marketing for Capitol but now runs some indies and other stuff, and he's a voting Grammy member. We did this AMA thing where you sent anonymous questions and he answered them, one I sent was "
25,
Lemonade, or something else for 2017 AOTY?" His response was "
Lemonade.
25... I REALLY like that record. But I think
Lemonade."
His argument after that wasn't groundbreaking but still interesting, I kind of got the vibe that he preferred
25 musically but leaned
Lemonade due to more social/historical/industry reasons. I.e. he talked about the issue is that if
21 didn't exist,
25 would have a better shot, but since it does, in a way Adele will be compared to and has the potential to essentially lose to her prior effort more than she does to anyone in the category. He also said that the similar title could be seen as a mistake, at least for this purpose, in that it increases that effect. Lemonade can win even with the significantly lesser sales because voters can back it with saying it made major cultural statements, as well as it being a chance for her first win after multiple prior nominations. He also said anyone else besides the two of them winning would be unexpected to him and a result of them vote-splitting, there isn't a major move behind the scenes for anyone else that he knows of.
I'd be interested to hear what a voter with a past or present Sony affiliation as opposed to Universal or w/e has to say since Adele and Beyoncé are both Columbia.
