According to RollingStone, ARTPOP was 'experimental'.

Joanne, which will be released on October 21st, is Gaga's first album since 2013's experimental ArtPop. Named after the singer's aunt who died from lupus at the age of 19, Gaga has promised a more roots-y sound that is a product of her returning home for some time and removing herself from the limelight for a bit.

We all enjoy good music regardless of what genre it is (some of my most played songs are Christian rock, so let's not), but in Gaga's case we just expect excellency, and going rock/country or whatever is not an excuse to give us average songs.

Songwriter Hillary Lindsey, who co-wrote Little Big Town's "Girl Crush," played an important role on Joanne, composing three songs for the project, including "A-Yo" and the plaintive ballad "A Million Reasons." She joined Gaga for "A Million Reasons," adding high harmonies to the piano-driven tune's searching choruses. In a repeat performance around 1 a.m., Gaga tacked on Joanne's moving title track, written for her father who, it turns out, was in the crowd.

Nothing I've heard from this album is average to me. Average to me was ARTPOP and The Fame. I guess people have different opinions, however based on your notorious history of dismissing songs simply because of their genre I'm inclined to say my opinion is more objective than yours, therefore much like with my predictions of this album's sound... I'm right, yet again.
