People aren't disappointed that Gaga changed her sound. They're disappointed that she's doing it in an anonymous, almost generic way. You could easily place this ballad on a Katy, Rihanna, Adele album, and no one would know the difference beyond the vocals. Even though I prefer PI, I agree it was probably a misstep for promoting this album. They clearly went for the most recognizably "Gaga" song on the album as a lead single. If she's rebooting her sound/image, they should've went for a song that reflected that. It would've made people say, "wait, this is Gaga?"
