I kinda think Serena will show up at Singapore, maybe play one match and then withdraw. WTA won't be here for her skipping the YEC two times in a row, it's the biggest WTA tournament of the year.
I am aware of her career sweetie pie. A lot of others had tons of injuries and still did more, with less talent than her.
There's just not much that can be done about chronic back pain. It's not the typical injury where you take time off, recover, and come back. It follows you every day, with some days being better/worse than others. The doctors even told her that she wouldn't play tennis at a high level again. She did good considering her circumstances. Back pain is also the reason Golovin retired so early.

Massive Serena fan here, but she shouldn't be on the WTA if she's not going to play the YEC 2 years in a row, which is crucial to growing the sport.
I understand if she's seriously injured, but if not, she should at least show up and try to play a match or two.

The irony is that Serena is injured this year while last year I do think she was physically capable but mentally worn out.
I think Serena played more ITF event than WTA event this year
