If they don't free fall in the next days it's fine, if they do like the norm he should get quite a lot higher first.

That record will absolutely be broken at some point. Quite a lot of songs get so close that it will fall eventually.

50? There haven't even been 50 #1 songs in the past few years

Relatively speaking 10 week #1s aren't that uncommon and we have 3? songs with 14 weeks.

Timing has been very good for Mariah's record

If something can challenge that, it must be a multiformat radio hit with a very strong & steady streaming numbers

(Uptown Funk was a very great example) but timing prevailed

That still isn't quite a lot as you stated. There are barely three songs that came close to the record and 10 weeks #1s needed 7 more weeks to break it. That's a month and half. Due to streaming, the public can get tired of a song really quickly and switch to another one. We had One Dance just a couple of weeks ago and that didn't come close to Mariah's record.

Both I think? I think Celine replaced her at #1 with much more stronger sales when OSD was at its weakest

Streaming helps the longevity of songs... One Dance didn't have anything coming from Youtube. That cut it's run way shorter than it should have been.


And yes it is quite a lot to me considering how few songs go #1.

Huge airplay and sales. You can't spend 16 weeks at #1 with weak sales or weak airplay (maybe in early 2000s that's it).

13 weeks #1 on airplay, 11 weeks #1 on sales while her album was selling hugely and actually broke the highest sales in a week for a female at the time (compared to Uptown Funk, Closer, Happy, and Blurred Lines selling so well partly because nobody is/was buying the respective album).
