I honestly think it would've done even better than "Hello". The melody is so timeless and I think it's lyrically superior as well. #justiceforWWWY
"Hello" is honestly one of Adele's weakest singles.
No way in hell could it have topped Hello. Just the lyrics and that opening line were the perfect marketing for her comeback. It was kinda genius in how it played out. And the result was a record shattering debut for her album. And the whole point of lead singles is to get the album off to a flying start. So Hello CANNOT & WILL NOT be faulted.
Plus its sold over 10 million worldwide and thats in spite of 19 million having the album! Plus 1.72 billion YT views. WWWY probably has more repeat listening durability and will be favored more when it comes to talent shows. But Hello is just a tough song to pull off well for most singers.
People still not accepting that Perfect illusion is a disaster. This boost is nowhere near what it needed to be. She really needs to get another song out fast and abort this turkey of a song.

I guess when you put it that way, Hello definitely kinda had more viral appeal and is more fitting for a comeback. But idk, I've always found the song very flat and one dimensional. When We Were Young gets bigger and bigger as the song progresses and has a climactic end. Hello kinda just plods on and on imo
Radio "dropped" CW and is playing LMLY around here (Dropped as in still overplayed but way less than usual)
Deja Vu would've smashed if released later / earlier. He's truly effortlessly smashing
Oh really? Idk how I feel about that. I guess it's a good thing cause CW has already smashed and gotten a top 2 peak at this point so I wouldn't really mind LMLY taking its place.

I disagree. The final chorus of Hello is much more climactic/dramatic.
