this rihanna era is good/great
one huge /for now) hit in usa and 2 huge hits in europe ( rr and rudeboy)
the album will sell 3-3.5 million.. it's very very good
ggb sold a lot because of the re-release

I wasn't here back in the GGGB era to track it's sales every week, but that album only spent one week in the Top 10 before it was re-released (after which it spent one more) so Rated R's week-by-week sales are probably on par with GGGB's. Rihanna was never a huge album seller compared to how many successful singles she has.

Actually, GGGB used to sell averagely 80~100K copies every week..

1 1 Rude Boy - Rihanna ... but i can't believe it surpassed "Disturbia". It's my least favorite single from her.
2 2 Nothin' On You - B.o.B. featuring Bruno Mars ... I hope it goes #1 sometime!
7 3 Hey, Soul Sister - Train ... New peak!!! amazing song!
4 4 Need You Now - Lady Antebellum ... WORST SONG OF 2010
3 5 Telephone - Lady Gaga ft Beyoncé ... GaGa Queen!
5 6 Break Your Heart - Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris ...
6 7 Imma Be - Black Eyed Peas ... It did AMAZING!
10 8 Baby - Justin Bieber featuring Ludacris ...
8 9 BedRock - Young Money featuring Lloyd ...
9 10 Tik Tok - Ke$ha ... it's tew old but great!
"OMG" & "Alejandro" future smashes!!!
"If We Ever Meet Again" debuting!

The album is well on its way to selling a million and with more singles in the works, it will sell more. When put into perspective with her other albums, it is true that the sales figures may be disheartening. But the fact of the matter is that the album is still doing well by today's standards.
Furthermore, we for sure need to look at RR and Hard as single choices. These songs are unlike anything that she has EVER released. Having said that, all of the singles that she has released in the past have been met with good response (minus a couple missteps). Then the ALBUM has a CHART TOPPER.
Not. A. Flopppp.

Interesting you said all of this because Billboard agrees with you;

Hi Mark,
According to SoundScan, sales for Rihanna's "Rated R" have been remarkably steady in recent weeks.
The set debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 4 the week of Dec. 12, with 181,000 copies sold. In its next five weeks, the album moved 59,000, 50,000, 78,000, 91,000 (reflecting Christmas-week sales) and 40,000.
Since the chart week of Jan. 23, "Rated R" has consistently tallied sums in the 20,000s each week. The album has ranked in the top 40 of the Billboard 200 in each of its 17 chart weeks to date.
There was one week recently when Rihanna registered corresponding significant jumps on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200. In the March 6 chart week, "Rude Boy" blasted 64-23 as the Hot 100's Greatest Gainer/Digital and Airplay, becoming the first song to claim double honors simultaneously in four months. The same week, "Rated R" rebounded 35-18 on the Billboard 200 with a 21% gain.
Rihanna's fourth studio album has sold 753,000 to date. "Good Girl Gone Bad" (2007) has sold 2,587,000; "A Girl Like Me" (2006) 1,327,000; and, "Music of the Sun" (2005) is now in fourth place with 591,000 sold.

It isn't Good Girl Gone Bad like, it's a sound all of its own. The production is awesome on tracks like "Hard," "Rude Boy," "Te Amo," "Russian Roulette," and "Fire Bomb." "Fire Bomb"'s production is so slick! Nice r&b ballad pianos and synthesizers mixed with amazing guitar riffs! I was really shocked when I first heard on how amazing it sounded.

This album has variety -- and that should be appreciated. It's truly the album for all moods.
For the person whose checking it out, don't expect GGGB material except for maybe, "Photographs", "Te Amo", and "Rude Boy". She gets really deep and production is really absoloute on "Fire Bomb", "The Last Song" and "Cold Case Love". Songs that will be stuck in your head are: "Stupid In Love", "G4L" and "Hard" -- but all in all, an amazing follow up to her dynamite album.
