I think Britney is definitely a pop icon. Fad is pushing too far. Gaga is a fad, and Britney had a much bigger and much longer career.

Mostly language, yeah. I like to get into every aspect of a song. If I can't vibe with the lyrics, then I'll just take the instrumental of a song and listen to that on its own.

If I can't understand the language at all... welp... there's nothing to save it for me. And I'll just nab the instrumental if it's good.

No matter how much she bombs Britney will always have the good will of a certain generation. We witnessed the crazy beginning, the media's treatment of her, the meltdown, the comeback, etc. We will always look back on her debut fondly. We were invested in her and beyond that she is a total sweetheart. I don't feel like Gaga has that tbh, which is why her "decline" seems very harsh and final
