The issue is, the lead single is supposed to promote and get the word out that Gaga is back and her new album is coming. Now that we know that the album is coming 6 weeks after the single, that is very worrisome. I don't know how they are going to do it but they need some way to make everyone know her new album is coming, having the lead single outside the top 75 on radio, top 50 on spotify, and very soon out of the top 50 on itunes is killing the hype for the album. With a strategy like that, you need to do what Taylor/Adele does and make sure that the lead is a smash for it work.. Idk but i'm worried for the album now too.

Unfortunately hit singles don't sell albums. I won't name names but avoiding the main girls, there are plenty of flops that we all know have hit after hit and can't sell more than 1M worldwide.
Once Joanne is available, it'll be Gaga's job to promote it. Unlike previous eras where it was based on the first numbers.. seems she's avoiding everything she's done before and trying something else. Learn from mistakes and all that.
The album will be rather better than the single, and will be worth the wait. The story's Ronson is saying really reminds me of his sessions with Amy and they're out there somewhere.. for people to watch.. her just almost meditating with her guitar.. getting drunk, smoking weed and loving the recording sessions. That's what music is about, having fun and using the platform Gaga has been given to release the emotions that she's been avoiding for the majority of her career, hiding behind fashion and complex "art."
I have no worries whatsoever. If a loud mouthed, music snob like Ms Winehouse was bowing at Mark's feet calling him a genius then I will not be pressing play in October and moaning that it's ****. It's impossible. Even Gaga has given subtle praises that the guy's on fire. Poor RedOne.
