TIFF is kinda going a bit bananas for JACKIE.
Quote:
As great as she is in ‘Black Swan,’ Natalie Portman gives the best performance of her career in ‘Jackie.’ #TIFF16 – Ramin Setoodeh
JACKIE is monumental. like Under the Skin and Marie Antoinette swirled together in a kaleidoscope of American history. what a movie. #TIFF16 -david ehrlich
‘Jackie’ has a shot at Oscars nominations in major categories: best picture, director, screenplay and actress, where Portman is a lock.- Ramin Setoodeh
In terms of box office, I think ‘Jackie’ could be an art house hit, playing strongly for the ‘Philomena’/’The Queen’ demographic. #TIFF16 – Ramin Setoodeh
JACKIE: Powerful, magnificently textured portrait of one of history’s most enigmatic women in her darkest hour. Portman astounds. A- #TIFF16 – Jason LeRoy
Lock down an Oscar nod for Natalie Portman, who is incredible as Jackie Kennedy in #Jackie. She’s amazing, the movie is good #TIFF16 – Erick Davis
JACKIE: A tour-de-force for Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy in the aftermath of JFK’s assassination. The film almost matches her. #TIFF16 – Adam B. Vary
JACKIE will get Natalie Portman an Oscar nomination. There are things I know and this is a thing I know. -Mike Ryan
In “Jackie,” filmed almost entirely in close-ups, rage and grief and resentment ooze out of Natalie Portman. I am floored. #TIFF16 – Matt Jacobs
Impressed with Jackie. Potent meditation on myth, grief and power. Superlative Mica Levi score. -Jason Wood
Portman is unrecognizable – Orlando Maldonado
Natalie Portman is on the knife’s edge in JACKIE: scattered, grieving, testy, protective. Devastating moments. A great portrait. – Joshua Rothkopf
Even the audience in this q&a realizes that JACKIE’s music (by Mica Levi, also of UNDER THE SKIN) is another star. Mancini+Herrmann. #TIFF16 – Joshua Rothkopf
Standing ovation for Natalie Portman and JACKIE at #TIFF16. A lot of audible sniffles throughout. – Joshua Rothkopf
Pablo Larrain brings an unsettling, unique vision to JACKIE. Natalie Portman is haunting. The score is chilling. It’s incredible. –AdriFloridia
JACKIE: Stunning psychodrama, exquisite period piece, Natalie Portman, Natalie Portman, Natalie Portman. – Erickohn
JACKIE, Pablo Larraín’s lyrical close-up on Mrs. Kennedy, led by a huge, mannered perf from Natalie Portman that will polarize—I loved it – Richard Lawson
Some good supporting perfs at TIFF: John Hurt as Jackie Kennedy’s priest… -Richard Lawson
Strong showing tonight at #Tiff16 of an unmasked #Jackie. While classified as fiction, the Portman-Larraín combo felt raw, real, honest. – Evie Begy
Pablo Larrain’s “Jackie” is quite its own thing, music, meditation, vibe. Intimate, aching history in close-up. Hail the ballsy Larrain! – Wellsh Wood
Natalie Portman is the darkest, saddest Jackie — griefstruck, history & legacy weighing down, constantly smoking, eyes that don’t look away. – Wellsh Wood
Jackie was more than just a fantastic performance piece for Natalie Portman. Everything from the script to the music handled with precision. – Edward Douglas
Also, you have to be impressed by the supporting cast incl. Peter Sarsgaard and John Hurt who have great scenes with Portman. – Edward Douglas
JACKIE (A-): Portman’s powerhouse performance is surrounded by great direction, score, cinematography, and editing. One of #TIFF16’s best. -Eric Marchen
JACKIE (B) Nicely avoids biopic pitfalls. Lovely meditation on legacy and responsibility. #TIFF16 -eugenenovikov
Among the many superlatives I’d throw at “Jackie,” its excellent score is only the 2nd by Mica Levi, following “Under the Skin.” #TIFF16. -Scott Macaulay
Just got out of Jackie at #TIFF16. Great performance from Natalie Portman, & the film deftly balances despair, grief and tension. -Matt Atchity
JACKIE: Surprisingly experimental and experiential snapshot biopic. Portman is a stunner. #TIFF16 -Jason Bailey

Okay I'm happy about this. I knew that the film would either get praise or be trashed by critcs. Natalie has been in such a strange place since The Oscar win. Congrats Queen.

Summer 2006-Summer 2016 gave her a total of one positively reviewed film, which got her an Oscar. So it's been strange for awhile.

David Poland @DavidPoland
Little loudmouth bird says Searchlight’s bought Jackie
Searchlight films in Lead Actress:
Hilary Swank, Boys Don't Cry (won)
Judi Dench, Notes on a Scandal
Ellen Page, Juno
Natalie Portman, Black Swan (won)
Quvenzhane Wallis, Beasts of the Southern Wild
Reese Witherspoon, Wild
Saoirse Ronan, Brooklyn
Searchlight films in Best Picture:
Little Miss Sunshine
Juno
Slumdog Millionaire (won)
127 Hours
Black Swan
The Descendants
Beasts of the Southern Wild
12 Years A Slave (won)
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Birdman (won)
Brooklyn
ALSO: Searchlight owns The Birth of a Nation, so this might as well be the death knoll for that film. They'll obviously focus their award campaigning efforts on the controversy-free film that's getting much better reviews than TBOAN.

Woo the Jackie press I guess it's not really a biopic? It's fiction? I guess their recreation of what happened? I'm interested in watching it.

Best Actress is going to be a battle between Viola, Natalie, and Emma, this race is already shaping up to be better than last season.

Wow at those Jackie reactions! That little clip I saw was kinda underwhelming but it's nice to hear Natalie delivers.

And last season was pretty good too! I was a big fan of both Saoirse and Brie!

Good for Jackie I think we're gonna see Natalie everywhere like Saoirse last year
By the way, for now, Best Actress seems to be Emma/Natalie/Viola, very curious to see who will fit the other two spots. Maybe Bening and Adams? I hope Chastain pulls through if the film is good.
Best Actor still seems very open, am I right? I see no frontrunner. Maybe Affleck, I would love to see a role like his win an Oscar. Lead male wins are usually so boring, with impersonations and stuff.

This year's best actress Oscar is going to be 'Mortal Kombat' between Emma Stone and Natalie Portman. #TIFF16

Meh..at this point is getting so crowded that they're just throwing "frontrunner this and that". We'll see, especially this last minute bandwagon of Natalie Portstep
