For me, RYM is less of an interactive/social experience and more for personal use...

I use it to rank albums on the 5 star system to get a good gauge and collection of my personal music library and to keep track of the things I've listened to and how I feel about them.

Making lists and keeping a record of the music you own is also fun.

Also, it's definitely the #1 way I find new music. Searching the highest rated things in subgenres is a goldmine when it comes to discovering older music and music genres you're trying to get into.
