This song literally personifies the night/morning after a night out for me. The hangover, the comedown, and the cold realisation and acceptance of feelings in the cold light of day. And yet, underneath all of that pain and anger and anguish and heartbreak, this song still has an aura of strength - it feels like a comeback, not necessarily Gaga related but it's the atmosphere the song has.

I'm so excited to see the video and just feel this single era out more. Do I want the album as soon as possible? Of course. But I want Perfect Illusion to have it's time to shine.

It's depressing that some of you guys are gauging this song based on chart performance. It's a new sound and a new era for Gaga. She's even described this experience as "Feeling like i'm a new artist again" so she's clearly been reinvigorated by working with Ronson & co.

The demonic backing vocals behind 'I just want you alone' and 'Maybe you're just a dream' makes me love this even more. That feeling of knowing you've been betrayed and fooled and yet the devil on your shoulder is still filling you with temptation to go back to the person and repeat.

The bridge is two narratives at once. It's quite amazing actually, esp if you listen to the background vocals, you hear them pushing to the forefront before the beat snaps and the key change. These producers are going to serve Gags her best album!

With the state of the UK charts at the moment, I really wouldn't mind her not doing as well if that means she's not subscribing to some of the formulaic hell that is broadcast over the radio over here.

Pop artists like Zara, Dua, Ariana, Gaga all seem to struggle with sales when they have fantastic, melodic, well thought out and all round great singles out, meanwhile the latest garage remix, tropical house mush or Britain's Got Talent finalist warbling a cover of an originally fantastic Robyn song reaches top 10 instantly. And it's not like I'm not supportive of new artists (hell, I've named two in the paragraph alone) nor do I denounce the new charting system. It's just sad at the moment that artists that work hard are, in my opinion, not being recognised.

Right! I did think the first few listens that those luscious backings should have been given their own moment to shine, but creatively it's clear that the bridge, as you say, is meant to have a certain duality and sound frantic. The whole song is. It's the pure panic of realising you've been fooled.
