Also, plenty of flop artists perform the NA at the SB -- Christina in 2011, Jennifer Hudson a couple of years ago, and Mariah in 2002, with no positive impact in sales with their own music. Her performance at the Oscars was also for a different project.
My point is, Gaga could've been very successful right now had she came out with a strong pop record. Most people love(d) Gaga for Bad Romance, Just Dance, Poker Face, Born This Way, etc. ARTPOP was a huge underperformance for her, she took a long break, and now she came back with a risky lead single, so to expect her to do very well is unfair. I get it if she came out with Bad Romance 3.0, but that's not the case here
